May 6, 2015 Page 11 Arts & ENTERTAINMENT The Reed College Dance Department presents its annual Spring Dance Concert, featuring choreog- raphy by students, faculty and guest choreographers, in the Reed College’s newly renovated Green- wood Performance Stage on Friday, May 8 and Saturday, May 9 at 7 pm. Spring Dance Concert The community is invited to Reed College’s Spring Dance Concert, featuring the work of guest choreographers and mem- bers of Reed’s Contemporary Per- formance Ensemble. The annual event will also in- clude seven dances choreographed and performed by the Reed Dance Troupe, an entirely student-or- ganized, extra-curricular dance ensemble; and choreography by Reed dance professors Carla Mann and Minh Tran in collabora- tion with their students, as well as music by Courtney Von Drehle of Three Leg Torso. Performances are scheduled for Friday, May 8 and Saturday, May 9 at 7 p.m. at the school’s reno- vated Greenwood Performance Stage. Provocative Happy Hour Educator, writer, organizer, and spoken word artist Walidah Imarisha will headline a happy hour series meant to spark provocative conversations about big ideas on Thursday, May 21 at 7 p.m. at the Alberta Rose Theater, 3000 N.E. Alberta St. Imarisha, a Portland State University black studies professor, leads one of Oregon Hu- manities’ most popular Conversation Project discussions, “Why Aren’t There More Black People in Oregon? A Hidden History.” As part of the group’s “Think & Drink,” happy hour series, she will talk about the continuity and resistance in the history of Oregon’s black communities, alternatives to incarceration, and science fiction and social change with Adam Davis, executive director of Oregon Humanities.
