power rankings, plays host to
Newberg in a first-round play-
off game Wednesday, March
11.
The Generals have been se-
lected as team- of- the-week in
the Oregonian twice this sea-
son. A few of the players also
have played in the Portland
Observer’s Joyce Washington
All-Star Classic.
Wesley Matthews
Season Ending Injury
Trail Blazers guard Wesley
Matthews ruptured his left Achilles
tendon in Portland's game against
Dallas on Thursday night and will
miss the remainder of the season
pending surgery and the recovery
from the injury, officials said.
Matthews was running with
the ball when he fell to the court
two minutes into the third quarter
and was helped off the floor. An
MRI confirmed the injury.
Matthews was third on the
team with an average of 15.9
points per game, along with 3.7
rebounds and 2.3 assists for the
Blazers this season. He started all
60 games.
His teammates lamented the
loss of the player fans call "Iron
Man" for his toughness.
The injury comes as the Blaz-
ers (41-20) fight for playoff posi-
tion in the Western Conference
with 19 games to go in the regular
season.
Blazers Spring Break Clinic
A spring break hoops clinic
sponsored by the Portland Trail
Blazers for youth ages 7-14,
will be held Monday, March 23
at 1:30 p.m., and feature guard
Allen Crabbe and forward Joel
Freeland.
