HIV/AIDS in
Black History
The impact of HIV and AIDS
on the African American com-
munity will be the topic of a
cultural competency lecture
sponsored by the African Ameri-
can Employee Resource Group
at Oregon Health Sciences Uni-
versity.
Dr. Christopher Evans will dis-
cuss his research on the epidemic
which has disproportionately im-
pacted the African American com-
munity. The free and open to the
public talk takes place Thursday,
Feb. 12 at 12:15 p.m. in the Bio-
medical Information Communi-
cation Center (BICC) gallery on
the OHSU campus. You’re in-
vited to come early for a light
lunch and networking.
Folks unable to join the Black
History Month event can watch
a live web stream of the talk
through the OHSU network.
NAACP Celebrates
100 Years
Members of the NAACP will
pay tribute to the civil rights
group’s centennial with a cel-
ebration of black life and cul-
ture.
The free and open to the
public event will take place on
Saturday, Feb. 21 at 11 a.m. at
the Vancouver Housing Au-
thority, 2500 Main St. For more

Black History Social Gala
The world Black History Arts
Culture invites the community to
a social gala during Black His-
tory Month with musical perfor-
mances, readings about ancient
black culture, poetry, a live DJ,
and more!
The free event will be held
Saturday, Feb. 21 from 8 p.m.
to 2 a.m. at the Pink Rose Bar
and Lounge, 1300 N.W.
Lovejoy St.
