Governor Asks for Review
Gov. John Kitzhaber asked Attorney General Ellen Rosenblum Monday
to conduct a “full and factual review” of any questions or allegations
surrounding his office’s handling of his fiancée Cylvia Hayes’ govern-
ment contracts. The governor denied any wrongdoing while pledging
to cooperate with the investigation.
Electronic Cigarettes Targeted
Attorney General Ellen Rosenblum urged the Oregon Legislature Mon-
day to make the selling of electronic cigarettes to children illegal. The
proposal would also require safe packaging of the devices and adopt
restrictions for their use in public areas.
Push for Smoke Free Parks
Wednesday the Portland City Council will consider a measure to expand
the Portland Parks ban on smoking and tobacco use to the entire park
system. If approved, all city parks, natural areas, and trails will become
smoke-free starting on July 1.
Shooting near Woodlawn Park
More than two dozen shell casings were found on a street near
Woodlawn Park in northeast Portland Saturday after police responded
to a gang-related shooting. Two groups, one in a car, one standing on
a street corner, were accused of exchanging gunfire. Officers took two
suspects into custody.

Man Shot Near Elks Lodge
A shooting that took place outside the Billy Webb Elks Lodge in
the Elliot Neighborhood early Saturday leaving one victim injured,
identified as Ian Jarreau Campbell, 31. Anyone with information on
the shooting is encouraged to contact Detective Todd Gradwahl
at 503-823-2056.
4-Year-Old Shoots Self
A four-year-old boy from Gresham accidentally shot his own index
finger Saturday night after somehow reaching his grandfather’s
gun which was being stored in a bedroom. Detectives are still
investigating the incident and no criminal charges have been filed
at this time.
Homicide Nets 22 Years
On Monday, 28-year-old Jontae Rydale Mixon was sentenced to
22 years in prison after pleading guilty to manslaughter and assault
charges in connection with the July 2014 homicide of 26-year-old
Hahrahcio Roy Branch.
Robbery and Bomb Threat
On Friday morning police responded to a robbery at a Subway on
Northeast Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. The suspect fled the
shop after leaving behind a box he said was a bomb, then fled the
shop with an undisclosed amount of cash. An examination of the
box later revealed it was empty. Police are still trying to find the
suspect.

Residents Flee
Motel Fire
A fire damaged four units at the
Union Avenue Motel in northeast
Portland Monday, displacing 21 adults
and six children.
Lieutenant Damon Simmons said
crews arrived around 5:30 p.m. to
find heavy fire in two units while two
others were also damaged. No inju-
ries were reported.
Firefighters said they had to work
around drug needles scattered in
the room where the fire started.
Damage was estimated at $130,000.
The cause of the fire is under inves-
tigation.
The American Red Cross is assist-
ing the displaced residents until they
can either return to their homes or
find other housing.
