Jazz
Festival

College
Garfield High School Jazz Band

Vancouver campus for this
year’s festival, Thursday
through Saturday, Jan. 29-31 in
Gaiser Hall. Garfield, the
2014sweepstakes winner will
perform as the headliner on
Saturday evening. Admission is
$5 per day.

Discovery Museum’s “Go Figure!” -- The Discovery
Museum’s welcomes a new travelling exhibit that
introduces early math concepts through kid-sized
environments and familiar children’s books. Exhibit
runs through Sunday, Feb. 1 at the World Forestry
Center Discovery Museum. This exhibit is also avail-
able in Spanish. Admission is $9 for adults, $8 for
seniors, and $6 for children ages 3 -18.

Farmers Market Open for Winter -- The Portland
Farmers Market at Portland State University is now
open on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the South
Park Blocks. Some produce to
expect during the winter months
include stacks of purple and green
kale, broccoli and cauliflower, carrots, pars-
nips, beets, apples, pears, winter squash, potatoes,
and onions.
Pop Culture Comedy -- The Tony Award-winning
play and pop cul-
ture comedy, Vanya
& Sonia & Masha
& Spike, is now
playing at Portland
Center
Stage
through Feb. 8. The
story revolves
around the relation-
ship of three middle-
aged siblings, two of whom tolerate their mediocre
middle-aged lives, until their movie-star sister Masha
returns for a surprise visit with her boy-toy love
interest.
Soulful Showcase -- Blacque Butterfly presents spo-
ken word, live music and featured artists on the second
and fourth Thursdays of each month at 8 p.m. at
E’Njoni Café, African-Mediterranean cuisine at 910 N.
Killingsworth St.
Norman Sylvester -- Boogie Cat Norman Sylvester
and his band perform Friday, Jan. 30 at Clyde’s; and
Saturday, Jan. 31 at the Columbia Theater in Longview.
Chicago Steppin’ Classes -- You have seen the R.
Kelly video, now it’s time to learn the dance! Portland’s
Groovin’ High Steppers offer Chicago Steppin’ classes
at the Rockwood Community Center in Gresham and
the Colwood Golf Center in northeast Portland. All
levels are welcome. No partner is needed. First two
lessons are free; $20 monthly fee includes both loca-
