Church Hosts MLK Concert -
- The Community African Meth-
odist Episcopal Zion Church, 3605 E.
13th St. in Vancouver opens its doors for a
Martin Luther King Jr. Musical Tribute, Black Lives
Matter. Free and open the public, the concert will
celebrate black life and the commitment the black
community has to keeping its young people alive. It
will be held on Sunday, Jan. 25 at 4 p.m.
Discovery Museum’s “Go Figure!” -- The Discovery
Museum’s welcomes a new travelling exhibit that
introduces early math concepts through kid-sized
environments and familiar children’s books. Exhibit
runs through Feb. 1 at the World Forestry Center
Discovery Museum. This exhibit is also available in
Spanish. Admission is $9 for adults, $8 for seniors, and
$6 for children ages 3 -18.
Farmers Market Open for Winter -- The Portland
Farmers Market at Portland State University is now
open on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the South
Park Blocks. Some produce to expect during the winter
months include stacks of purple and green kale, broc-
coli and cauliflower, carrots, parsnips, beets, apples,
pears, winter squash, potatoes, and onions.
Pop Culture Comedy -- The Tony
Award-winning play and pop
culture comedy, Vanya & Sonia
& Masha & Spike, is now play-
ing at Portland Center Stage
through Feb. 8. The story re-
volves around the relationship
of three middle-aged siblings, two
of whom tolerate their mediocre middle-
aged lives, until their movie-star sister Masha
returns for a surprise visit with her boy-toy love
interest.
Soulful Showcase -- Blacque
Butterfly presents spoken word,
live music and featured artists
on the second and fourth Thurs-
days of each month at 8 p.m. at
E’Njoni Café, African-Mediter-
ranean cuisine at 910 N. Killingsworth St.
Norman Sylvester -- Boogie Cat Norman Sylvester and
his band perform Friday, Jan. 23 at the Spare Room;
Sunday, Jan. 25 at Bradford’s; Friday, Jan. 30 at Clyde’s;
and Saturday, Jan. 31 at the Columbia Theater in
Longview.
Chicago Steppin’ Classes -- Learn the fastest growing
urban dance at the Billy Webb Elks Lodge, 6 N.
Tillamook St. each Friday at 6:30 p.m. Classes also at
7 p.m. on the first, second and third Mondays of the
month at the Rockwood Community Center, 124 N.E.

Music Millennium Free Shows -- The Music Millen-
nium, 3158 E. Burnside, hosts in-house live perfor-
mances. Enjoy free music and the opportunity to meet

Fourth Sunday Jam Night -- A friends and family
variety comedy show in a Saturday Night Live format
with local recording and performing artists, bands,
dance crews, poets, and drama groups, takes place
each fourth Sunday of the month at 7 p.m. at Celebra-
tion Tabernacle, 8131 N. Denver Ave. The free event
is open to the community.
