Police said a bullet fired from as far as a mile away hit a
residential window in southeast Portland Saturday where
a 1-year-old girl was living. The child was not injured,
but the infant’s crib was covered in shattered glass.
Anyone with information about the shooting is asked

Cannons Scare Starlings on I-5 Spans
The Oregon Department of Transportation started us-
ing orchard cannons on the two spans of the Interstate
Bridge last week in an annual effort to disturb the
thousands of starlings that roost on the spans. Officials
are trying to prevent the large amounts of bird drop-
pings that leave bridge paths unsanitary and unsightly.
Second Warmest Year on Record in Oregon
According to scientists, the year 2014 was the second
warmest year on record for Oregon. Studies issued Friday
by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association
show a continuing pattern of global warming that is
attributed primarily to rising levels of greenhouse gases.

Vandals Hit Grant High, Irving Park
Three teens were arrested and charged with criminal
mischief last week in connection with spray paint
vandalism that occurred two weeks ago at Grant High
School. Damages were reported from football field
facilities, bathrooms, and cars in the Grant neighbor-
hood. They are also accused of vandalizing bathooms
at nearby Irving Park.
Massive I-84 Pileup Involves 50 Vehicles
Over 50 vehicles were caught in a massive accident
on Interstate 84 Saturday morning in Eastern Oregon.
The pileup included more than a dozen semi-trucks.
12 people were taken to the hospital emergency room
in Baker City.
Man Charged with Animal Cruelty
A homeless man was arrested and charged with
animal abuse and neglect Monday, accused of
punching his dog in the stomach and biting both
of its ears. The dog, named Hobo, was taken to
Washington County's Bonnie L. Hays Small Ani-
mal Shelter.
