Mural for Beloved Street Performer Kirk Reeves
A u g . 13 — A celebration marks the completion of the Kirk Reeves
Mural as a memorial to the late and beloved black street performer who
entertained commuters for years at the foot of the Hawthorne Bridge.
Artist Gwenn Seemel said the painting at Northeast Lloyd Avenue and
Grand was one of the more emotional works she has ever created.
Look to Your Left on Busy North Williams!
A u g . 20 — Commuters negotiate between other vehicles,
bike lanes and construction on the busy North Williams
Avenue thoroughfare as transportation crews switch the bike
lane to the left side of the street. The project which includes
updated crossings and curb extensions is a move to increase
safety on the street, which sees more than 4,000 bikers at
peak hours.

When Juvenile Justice Fails
S e p t. 17 — Unfair punishment for juveniles under
Oregon's mandatory-minimum sentencing laws moves
to center stage when supporters of reform joined
together at Pioneer Courthouse Square for a commu­
nity awareness and healing event. “Young people who
commit crimes needs to be held accountable, but
accountable as what they are - children, not adults, ”
said Cassandra Villanueva of the Partnership for
Safety and Justice.
