Crash Victims were Best Friends
April 16 — Two Portland area students attending
Pacific University in Forest Grove are killed in a traffic
crash on Oregon Highway 4 7 north of the campus.
Kiden Dilla,18 and Ayan Osman, 19, were remem­
bered for their friendship as best friends and for
starting a Black Student Union at Pacific.

Remembering Community Leader Charles Jordan
April 9 - Portland Mayor Charlie Hales ordered all flags to fly at
half-mast for longtime community leader Charles Jordan after his
death at age 77. Portland’s first African-American City Commissioner
was remembered for his community-building to help local children
and families, especially in his role as a former director of Portland
Parks and Recreation.
May 14 — Five students from Martin Luther King Jr.
School travel to Washington, D.C. to perform the
classic play “Annie” for Michelle Obama. The
northeast Portland school was one of eight schools
in the country to participate in an arts program
designed to narrow the achievement gap for
underserved students while paring the schools with
notable performing artists.
