ees. T h e co u n ty ’ s b o ard o f c o m m is­
sioners approved the w age hike on
T hursday. It w ill b e p h ased in over
the n ex t th ree years.
The county agreed to the m ini­
m um w age as part o f its new contract
w ith union w orkers. C om m issioners
voted to extend it to nonunion w ork­
ers as well, including tem porary and
on-call em ployees such as election
and library workers.
O fficials say about 5 0 0 w orkers
w ill benefit. T hat's 9 p ercent o f the
co u n ty 's w orkforce. T he increase
w ill co st about $6 7 5 ,0 0 0 o v er the
next three years.
