Holiday Performance with Jazz Sensation
Portland native, four-time Grammy winner and
jazz sensation Esperanza Spaulding will perform
with the Oregon’s Symphony for the annual Ode to
Joy New Year’s Celebration on Friday, Dec. 30 and
Saturday, Dec. 31. She will be joined by her mentor
and local jazz hero and trumpeter Thara Memory.
December marks a series of holiday performances
by the Oregon Symphony at the Arlene Schnitzer
Concert Hall, downtown.
Gospel Christmas, featuring the Oregon Sym
phony and the Northwest Community Gospel Choir,
along with Charles Floyd and Gary Hemingway,
plays on Friday, Dec. 12 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday,
Dec. 14 at 4 p.m.
Cirque Música, a spellbinding mix of circus per
formance art and classical music, plays on Friday,
Dec. 19 at 7:30 p.m. and again Saturday, Dec. 20 at 2
p.m.
Comfort and Joy: A Classical Christmas, brings a
medley of Christmas songs for the whole family to
sing along to accompanied by the Oregon Sym
phony. This one time performance will be on Dec. 21
at 4 p.m.
Ode to Joy, the New Year’s celebration with
Spaulding, will be conducted by the Oregon
Symphony’s music director Carlos Kalmar. Tickets
start at $25.
