When a gay teenager growing
up in America's Bible belt finds him
self HIV-positive, he decides to take
his own life instead.
“Broken Heart Land “follows the
story of the young man, Zack, and
how his grief-stricken parents pro
cess his suicide.
Against the backdrop of a small,
isolated town divided on the issue
of hom osexuality, Zack's grief-
stricken parents, both conservative
Republicans and military veterans
are left to reconcile their own social
and political beliefs.
The film has won praise for the
way it addresses critical issues of
HIV/AIDS awareness, the lack of
comprehensive sex education and
LGBT rights where these issues are
considered taboo.
The documentary is set for an
exclusive run at the Clinton Street
Theater in southeast Portland from
Saturday, Nov. 29 to Thursday, Dec.
4.
