Funeral services for Ester Neda
West will be held Thursday, Oct. 30
at 11 a.m. at Emmanuel Temple
Church, 1033N. Sumner St. Viewing
is scheduled for Wednesday, Oct.
29 at Terry Funeral Home, 2337 N.
Williams Ave., from 3 p.m. to4p.m .
for family, and 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. for the
public.
She was bom on
Dec. 31,1933 in Lin­
den, Texas, the last of
nine children bom to
the union of the late
Lee McDowell and
Mrs. Estella Crow McDowell. Four
brothers and two sisters preceded
her in death along with her husband.
As a child, she united with the
Sunrise Baptist Church where she
worshipped faithfully. And as a
young lady, she attended Bishop
College in Marshall, Texas; before
moving to Portland in 1955. Ester
was employed by the State of Or-
egon for over 30 years in various
roles such as switchboard operator,
receptionist, and foster care and fam-

ily services agent. Among many o
her passions were the Portland Trai
Blazers, gardening, supporting both
national and local D em ocratic
causes, current events and shop
ping with her beloved friend Mrs.
Katherine Jennings.
Ester accepted Jesus Christ as her
personal savior while attending the
Church of the Living God C. W.F.F.
She held many church positions
such as president of women’s char
ity work, financial secretary, board
trustee and choir member; as well as
other auxiliary offices. She wed into
holy matrimony with Joe A. West
and two children were bom, Randy
E. West and Daniel E. West.
Ester was a sweet, loving, giving
mother and grandmother who trea-
sured spending time with her family,
She leaves to cherish her memory,
her sons, a host of nephews and
nieces, and her grandchildren, Jo-
seph West, Randy West Jr., Jalen
West, Malia Thomas, Damon Tho-
mas, Joseph West Jr., and JaNyah
West.

He was a delightful happy-go-
lucky individual from the day he
entered this world. He was so ready
to experience this thing we call life.
He started walking and talking at
seven months old.
He loved all of his family. He had
an unbreakable bond with his three
brothers and two sisters. He had
that same bond with his cousins
and considered some of them to be
like brothers. Healsoheldhis friends
near and dear. There weren’t enough
hours in the day for him to make
sure everyone was doing fine.
