Theatre. Doors open at 7 p.m. with
the show at 8 p.m.
Melao de Cuba is a group of
talented Portland musicians who
come together to share the beauty
and exuberance of traditional Cu
ban music. Melao is the Spanish
word for molasses, an ingredient
that is transformed into one of the
oldest spirits of the world, rum.

Cuban and Spanish music into vi
brant, danceable music that hits your
spirit and brings joy to your heart.
Edna Vazquez performs original
compositions that pay homage to
her many Latin American influences
and frequently mixes in her own
arrangements of traditional songs
to bring the feeling of M exico’s
Folkloric music to her audience.
Luz Elena Mendoza (Y La Bamba
& Tiburones) draws from both her
strict Catholic upbringing as an only
daughter of a Mexican immigrant to
create w hat LA W eekly calls
"Devendrá Banhart-influenced art-
folk with hazy femme vocals and
traditional Mexican sounds."

D uoat the Wonder Ballroom
The Underachievers, a hip hop rap duo from New
York, are coming to the Wonder Ballroom in
northeast Portland with the Flatbush Zombies on
Thursday evening, Oct. 30. In support of their
album “Cellar Door: Terminus Ut Exordium, ” the
group is touring with what’s been called one of
the most dynamic live shows in hip hop, and
even more so when you put them with the
Zombies. The two groups also ju st put out a
collaboration dubbed “Clockwork Indigo. ”
