ushers in new
era for school
The Jefferson High School Democrats
made the most of their new field Friday when
they beat cross-town rival Madison Friday
night, 25-0.

Before the kick-off, Carole Smith and other
leaders from Portland Public Schools, NIKE,
and Jefferson gathered to celebrate and dedi­
cate the new all-weather track and field, the
ninth completed project of “The 10 Great
Fields” endeavor.
The ceremony included a barbeque by
Cannon’s Rib Express and a mini festival
with games and face painting for the commu­
nity.
Distinguished alumni, including Heisman
Trophy winner Terry Baker (Class of ’59),
joined others who worked together to create
the new track and field, including Jefferson
High School students, teachers, and staff;
and business and community leaders.
