American tradeswomen from around
the United States come to life in a
new production, My W alk Has
Never Been Average.
W ritten by Portland authors
Roberta Hunte and Bonnie Ratner,
the play weaves together stories
culled from Hunte’s interviews with
black women in trade careers.
The stories run the gambit, from
themes o f exclusion from opportu
nities, to sexual harassment, lack of
institutional support, and dearth of
professional development available.
In Oregon, women compromise
only 7 percent of the entire con
struction workforce. When you fac
tor in race, black women only repre
sent 0.4 percent of all construction
workers in Oregon.
The lives o f these working class
women of black America come to
gether in this performance, set to
take place Friday, Sept. 26 at the
Alberta Rose Theatre.
