Housing Resource Fair Saturday
The African American Alliance
for Home Ownership, a non-profit
community based organization, will
sponsor the first annual East Port-
land Housing Resource Festival on
Saturday, Aug. 23 from noon to 8
p.m. at Lent’s Park.
New and old residents are en-
couraged to get access to afford-
able housing and homeownership
resources as well as other resources
in the community. Local vendors, a
kids area, live music, and a homes
for sale bus tour are other high-
lights of the free and open to the
public event.
The African American Alliance
for H om eow nership began its
hom eow nership program m ing in
1999. After hosting the fair annu-
ally for a num ber o f years, fair
organizers realized a need for of
on-going services for m inority,
first-tim e buyers.
While the impetus for the ere-
ation of the non-profit was to help
African Americans in Portland buy
a home of their own, the organiza-
tion has expanded to include the full
range of housing counseling ser-
vices that are available to all per-
sons regardless o f race, gender and
ethnicity, and in accordance with
state and federal fair housing law.
AAAH currently administers a
host of free programs such as the
DPAL (Down Payment Assistance
Loan), IDA (Individual Develop-
ment Account), Homebuyer educa-
tion/certification classes, pre-pur-
chase and loss mitigation and fore-
closure prevention counseling.
