On Wednesday, Aug. 2 0 at 7 p.m., the
Northwest Film Center presents
“Crazywater, ” the new documentary by
Whitehorse, Yukon-based director
Dennis Allen. His raw and honest
exploration o f substance abuse among
First Nations communities begins in his
own childhood, when, according to him,
“peoplè were drinking hairspray, they
were drinking solvents. I understand it
too, because I ’m an alcoholic?” Plays
at Whitsell Auditorium in the Portland
Art Museum. Admission is $9.

Band Shell Hosts Free Concert
The Vancouver Symphony invites you to
bring your lawn chair, blanket and picnic
basket for a rousing and family-friendly free
outdoor concert in downtown Vancouver’s
Esther Short Park band shell on Thursday,
Aug. 14 from 6 p.m. to 8 pm.
The “Magic of Movie Music” concert will
feature some of the most memorable movie
music ever, produced and hosted by All
Classical's Edmund Stone and the 70+ mem-
John Williams' Star Wars, Raiders of the Lost
Ark and Harry Potter; James Homer's Apol lo
13; Hans Zimmer's Gladiator; Henry Mancini's
Pink Panther theme; Richard Wagner's Ride
of the Valkyries; and Camille Saint-Saëns'
Danse Macabre.
Has your child been itching to play a
musical instrument? Prior to the concert,
Beacock Music will create a musical instru­
ment "petting zoo" where children of all ages
can try out musical instruments from violins
to trumpets under the expert supervision of
professional musicians.
