Rooftop Cinema Returns
This week the Northwest Film Center opens its 1 Oth
season o f Top Down: Rooftop Cinema, with feature
films each Thursday night through Aug. 28 atop Hotel
deLuxe’s parking structure at Southwest 15th and
Yamhill.
Doors open at 7 p.m. with food and beverages
available for purchase and live music by local artists.
The music begins at 8 p.m., and the movies start at
dusk. Some seating is provided, with folks also en
couraged to bring a chair, pillow, or blanket and a light
sweater or jacket.
The films scheduled are “Notorious” on July 24;
“Bottle Rocket” on July 31; “The 5,000 Fingers o f Dr.
T” on Aug. 7; Vanishing Point on Aug. 7; “Edward
Scissorhands” on Aug. 21; and “The King o f Comedy
on Aug. 28.

Playwrights Festival Kickoff
Portland’s JAW festival is a chance to see staged
readings o f new plays in development from some o f the
country’s most exciting playwrights. The event kicks off
Thursday, July 24, with free and open td the public
presentations throughout the weekend at the Gerding
Theater at the Armory, downtown.
