Juneteenth Honors Black Pioneers
J uneteenth Oregon celebrated the
African American path to freedom
Saturday from emancipation to the
achievements of Oregon’s own
black pioneers.
The annual event started with a
parade along Northeast Martin
Luther King Jr. Boulevard and pro­
ceeded to Legacy Emanuel Field for
a day-long celebration of live music,
games, children’s activities and
delicious food.
Actors portraying prominent fig­
ures in the struggle for freedom -
including Frederick Douglas, So­
journer Truth, Carter G. Woodson,
William Steele, Madame CJ Walker
