“A ctive sh o o ter in R eynolds High
School!’’ those were the first calls dispatched
between Troutdale authorities early Tues
day morning.
Now, investigators and people across the
country are asking *’why” after a teenage
shooter with a rifle canvassed the halls of
Reynolds High School east of Portland, kill
ing a student and wounding a teacher before
he himself was killed.
The 8 a.m. shooting saw the nearly 2,800
stu d e n t sch o o l go im m e d ia te ly in to
lockdown. More than 100 law enforcement
officers, tactical teams, and medical staff
rushed to the scene and helped all inside.
Students were patted down and had their
backpacks detained before by authorities
before boarding TriMet buses in waves to be
directly transported to the Wood Village
Fred Meyer at Northeast 223rd and Glisan
Street to be re-uninted with their parents and
guardians.
C ounselors were made available by
Multnomah County on-site for parents and
students to deal with the immediate shock,
anxiety, and grief.
As of midday Tuesday, police say they
had tentatively identified the shooter and

school shooting
were still gathering evidence on the shoot
ing and looking to piece together a timeline
of the day.
A Reynolds gym teacher, Todd Rispler
was the teacher injured by gunfire, grazed
with a non-life threatening injury to his side,
according to multiple sources.
