Maya Culture in Vibrant Colors
A Maya indigenous artist from
Guatemala who captures the vibrant
colors and cultural relevance of the
Maya civilization is coming to Port­
land for public exhibits of his work.
Pedro Cruz Sunu will be showing
his paintings with Maya women
weaving, Maya traditional events,
and landscapes of his pueblo near
Lake Atitlan.
Two exhibitions will take place.
He will be presenting in the Commu­
nity Room at Cherry Wood Village,
a retirement community located at
1417 S.E. 107th Ave., during the
Memorial Day weekend of May 24-
26.
The following weekend, May 29-
31, the paintings will be featured in
the Zócalo at the Teatro Milagro
[Miracle Theatre] located at 525 S.E.
Stark. The art show will be opened
before the play “Learn to be Latina”
and also during intermission.
The paintings can be viewed for
free at Milagro from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
on Thursday May 29; and 7 p.m. to
10 p.m. on both Friday and Satur­
day, May 30-31.

Rescued Sea Otter Settles In
Juno, a 4-month-old sea otter pup rescued in California earlier this
year and not suitable for release into the wild, arrived at the Oregon
Zoo last week. She will join the z o o ’s two geriatric sea otters,
Thelma and Eddie, in their Steller Cove habitat this summer.
