Jazz Appreciation

Veteran bandleader and drum­
mer Ron Steen , one of the
Northwest’s top rhythm-keepers
and a leader in the Portland jazz
scene will celebrate Jazz Appre­
ciation Month with his all-star
quartet on Friday, April 11 at 7:30
p.m. at the Walters Cultural Arts
Center, 527 East Main St., in
Hillsboro.
Known as the “Godfather of
Jazz Jams” in Portland, Steen can
be found hosting jazz jams sev­
eral times a month in some of the
city’s top clubs. He is also a
sought-after bandleader and ses­
sion musician, held in high regard
for his solid and versatile rhythms
and engaging personality.
