YOUTH ECOLOGY CORPS

The Oregon Zoo, operated by Metro, a metropolitan service district
organized under the laws of the State of Oregon and the Metro
Charter, located at 600 NE Grand Avenue, Portland, OR 97232-
2736, is requesting proposals for Youth Ecology Corps.
Sealed proposals are due no later than 2:00 p.m., February 6,2014,
in Metro’s business offices at 600 NE Grand Avenue, Portland, OR
97232-2736, Attention: Karen Slusarenko, Procurement Analyst,
RFP 2517.
Metro seeks to contract with a youth workforce development orga
nization with a strong background in youth employment and using
conservation-related crew work as a means to provide positive ex
periences for youth and to support on-the-ground conservation
projects. The contractor will work cooperatively with Metro to pro
vide job readiness training and on-the-ground conservation work
experience to youth coming from diverse, under served and at risk
backgrounds. The selected organization will manage youth work
crews that will accomplish habitat restoration and community en
hancement projects within Metro’s parks and natural areas. Metro
will in turn provide funding, work projects, and environmental edu
cation programming for the work crews. This program will be known
as the Youth Ecology Corps (YEC).
