Oregon Cigarette Tax Increase Starting with the New Year on Jan. 1, the tax on cigarettes will go up 13 cents in Oregon. Last fall during a special session, state lawmakers decided to increase the tax on cigarettes to $ 1.31 a pack. Felon Gets 20-Year Sentence A Portland man was sentenced to 20 years in prison last week for being a felon in possession of a firearm after he threatened a couple with a loaded handgun outside a convenience store near Southeast 162nd and D ivision. Sid Edward W illis Jr., 34, had only been out o f prison for two m onths prior to the incident. Cover Oregon Extends Deadline Oregon’s healthcare exchange Cover Oregon has ex­ tended its enrollment deadline by a week to Jan. 6 because of the number of people still waiting for the processing of mailed applications. About 38,000people have enrolled for insurance through Cover Oregon. Wells Fargo to Pay Millions Wells Fargo will be paying $591 million to lender Fannie Mae following a settlement agreement the two announced on Dec. 30. This follows Fannie M ae’s lawsuit claiming Wells Fargo overstate the quality of mortgage securities it sold during the 2008 American financial crash. When you are in gym covered in sweat and chalk and a little-bit of blood and your coach is making you do that thing that you fell on your face doing again, and you don’t wanna be here anymore ‘cause your friends are at the mall, gymnastics is signifi­ cantly less awesome,” Wilson says, with a light giggle. I’m very invested in not just the prod­ uct but the process and each stu­ dent,” she says “Regardless of whether my student is just coming in to learn how to do a cartwheel or they ’ re coming in because they have to get ready for an audition for Cir­ cus du Soliel I’m invested in every single student personally.”
