More than 200 vintage images illuminate Portland’s history as a port city, starting in 1840 with construc tion of the schooner Star of Oregon. Over 100 years later, three Portland shipyards would build 621 ships for World W ar II. “Portland’s Maritime History” is available at area bookstores and retailers, or through Arcadia Publishing.
