Page 8 December 18. 2013 ZooLights gets Greener and Brighter Holiday tradition features a million LEDs ZooLights is both brighter and greener this year. Since 2000, the Oregon Zoo has been upgrading its spectacular holi­ day light display with an eye to the future— gradually switching from conventional incandescent lights to highly efficient LEDs, which use a fraction of the energy and last far longer. This year’s ZooLights, presented by Toyota with support from The Boeing Company, adds even more new diodes, adding up to more than a million LEDs out of the nearly 1.5 million lights on display. LEDs use about 10 to 25 percent o f the power of standard holiday lights.
