and Oregon State rewarded him with
a surprising victory, holding off
Maryland 90-83 Sunday night in
College Park, Md.
Beavers coach Craig Robinson is
the older brother of Michelle Obama,
who sat with her husband, the
couple's two daughters and Marian
Robinson, the first lady's mother.
Craig Robinson usually arranges to
bring his team to the Washington,
D.C. area around Thanksgiving,
which enables him to visit family
and provide the Oregon State bas­
ketball team a White House tour.
Roberto Nelson scored 31 points
and Devon Collier had 29 points and
11 rebounds to provide the Beavers
their first win over an Atlantic Coast
Conference team since 1999.
Dez Wells scored 23 for the Ter­

Basketball Standouts Pick Schools
Two local student athletes who
have played together since the sec­
ond grade decided to sign their
“National Letter o f Intent” together
in a special ceremony dedicated to
their accomplishments.
Kameron Chatman of Columbia
Christian High School and best
friend Silas Melson are the top two
basketball prospects in the state of
Oregon and currently ranked among
the Top 100 high school basketball
players in the nation.
At the ceremony last W ednes­
day, hosted by Self Enhancement
Inc., where both received mentorship
as adolescents, it was confirmed
that Chatman will attend the Univer­
sity of Michigan, and Melson will
be attending Gonzaga University.
