Julian ‘Cannonball’Adderley
The David Vaidez Latin Jazz En­
semble kicks off the PDX Jazz @ The
M ission Theater fall season on
Thursday, Sept. 19 at 7 p.m. in a
program dedicated to the "Latin Side
of Cannonball Adderley." This spe­
cial one-time performance will fea­
ture trumpeter Tom Barber, bassist
Dave Captein, drummer Todd Strait,
percussionist Mario Sandoval, and
out front on alto sax, David Valdez.
The late Julian “Cannonball:
Adderley was one of the most im­
portant alto saxophonists in jazz,
and a musician who had a profound
impact on my musical concept," said

tion with entertainment, a raffle and a special lunch
on Monday, Sept. 23 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The community is invited to donate a ticket or a
raffle prize for a senior. Volunteers are also needed
to help with the event. The Meals-on-Wheels site
is located at 1907 N.E. 45th Ave., inside and down
the stairs at the Rose City Park Presbyterian Church.
Lunch tickets are $3 for seniors over 60 and $6.80
for residents under 60. For ticket purchases and

Sunday Jam Comedy Night
Celebration Tabernacle, 8131 N. Denver Ave.,
hosts its 4th Sunday Jam Night Comedy Variety
Show on Sunday, Sept. 22 at 7 p.m.
The free event is open to the community.
Friends and families will enjoy a Saturday Night
Live format with local recording and performing
artists, including bands, dance crews, poets, and
drama groups.
Celebration's sketch/improv comedy troupe Jam
Night will also perform. Special Guests are Teleca
Carlson (Christian/Gospel), Montrell Goss (young
published author/poet), and First Infantry (Chris­
