Free Senior Day at Oregon Zoo
Local seniors can reconnect with
wildlife Tuesday, Sept. 17, during
Senior Safari, a free day at the Or­
egon Zoo for anyone 65 or older.
“People often think of the Or­
egon Zoo as a great place for kids to
learn about wildlife — and it is —
but it’s also a great place for older
adults to connect with animals,”
said Kim Smith, zoo director. “People
of all ages love the zoo, and this day
has been planned especially for the
seniors in our community.”
Diversity
Films Each
Thursday
The Washington State Univer­
sity Vancouver Diversity Council
will present its sixth annual film fes­
tival over four weeks this month and
in October. This year's festival will
focus on diversity of faith. All
screenings are free and open to the
public.
The films will be shown on Thurs­
days at 6 p.m. on Sept. 12,19,26, and
Oct. 3.
The first installment “Life of Pi”
will be shown at the Kiggins The­
atre in Vancouver.
The last three, “W ater,” “Ar­
ranged,” and “The Perfect Family,”
will be shown in order on the WSU
Vancouver campus.
The goal of the diversity festival
is to select films that encourage and
promote awareness of diversity is­
sues both on the WSU Vancouver
campus and the world beyond it.
WSU Vancouver is located at
14204 N. E. Salmon Creek A ve., east
of the 134th Street exit from either I-
5 or 1-205.
From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., seniors
(who may each bring along one free
companion for the day) can pet ani­
mals at the Trillium Creek Family
Farm, attend animal talks, ride the
zoo train and take in a special animal
painting demonstration near the
picnic shelter. A senior lunch spe­
cial will be available at the Tiger
Plaza picnic shelter and in zoo res­
taurants.
The Zoo Store has wheelchairs
and electric scooters for rent on a
first-come, first-served basis. The
supply is limited, so visitors who
need wheelchairs are urged to bring
their own if possible.
