Celebrities bring day of
live music, family fun
A free celebration of Latino culture takes place Satur­
day, Aug. 24 from noon to 7 p.m. in the courtyard o f the BG
Plaza, located at 3800 S. W. Cedar Hills Blvd. behind Good­
will and the Thai Bloom restaurant.
Sponsored by the Beaverton Hispanic Center, Fiesta
Latina is a celebration of Beaverton’s Latino culture. The
event will include fun for all ages, like piñata making classes
and face painting for kids, and salsa dancing for teenagers
and adults.
Edna Vazquez
There will be performances by internationally renowned
mariachi singer Edna Vazquez, by Martin Zarzar, who
played for 10 years with Pink Martini, and Comparsa
Orgullo Morelense Cemiac, a local group practicing tradi­
tional Chínelos masked danc-ung from México.
In commemoration of the opening of the Beaverton
Hispanic Center’s new office, there will be a ribbon cutting
ceremony with special guests representing state and local
government and leaders in the Hispanic community.
Local businesses and organizations will be on site
exhibiting their wares and offering the food you love. Other
attractions will include a silent auction and raffle to raise
money for the His->panic Center’s operations.
Through this event, the BHC hopes to not only fund our
ongoing community services, but also to fulfill a part of our
mission by serving as a bridge between cultures.

Chamber Elects New Leader

Chamber recently added anew mem­
ber to its board of directors. Jardon
Jaramillo is the Principal Capital
Markets Analyst for Portland Gen­
eral Electric.
“Jardon brings additional finance
and business expertise with a young
professional’s perspective that will
be helpful as we continue to reach
out to young professionals in our
community. We are pleased that he
has joined us,” said Gustavo Cruz,
Hispanic Chamber board chair.
The Hispanic Cham ber was es-
tablished in 1994 and is now the
largest H ispanic Cham ber in the
Northw est and one o f the 5th larg­
est cham ber o f any type in .O r­
egon.
Unlike other “business” cham­
bers, its mission is to “work with all
members of the community to sup­
port the economic advancement of
Latinos in Oregon and Southwest
W ashington”.
