ogy, engineering and m ath d isci­
plines w ill lead the innovation and
solutions o f tom o rro w .” F rederick
said. “It is absolutely critical that w e
fill the pipeline w ith people w ho are
w ell-equipped and w ell-prepared in
ST E M d iscip lin es.”
Frederick, a graduate o f the Howard
U niversity C ollege o f M edicine, dis­
cussed the educational institution’s
groundw ork to channel young people
into these disciplines, which include
establishing a m iddle school o f math
and science in 2005.

levels, H ow ard has a track record o f
producing the largest n um ber o f
A frican-A m erican physicians and
is one o f the leading producers o f
m in o rity a p p lic a n ts to m e d ic a l
schools across the country.
