M L K D ream R un N ears
The second annual MLK Dream
Run/Walk aimed at promoting eco­
nomic development and health and
wellness in the Soul of Portland, will
be held Sunday Aug. 4.
An additional component, the
MLK Dream Run Health and Ex­
boutique is being planned prior to
race on Saturday, Aug.3. This event
will consist of small business booth
space, health awareness compo­
nents, food and entertainment.
Both events are sponsored by
the North/Northeast Business As­
sociation and will help raise funds
for several community organiza­
tions including the NNEB A Fellows
Program, a youth entrepreneurial/
career leadership project, and the
North by Northeast Community
Health Clinic which provides free
and low-cost health care to needy
families.
L ast y e a r ’s race p ro d u ce d
nearly 700 diverse participants
from 17 Oregon cities and five
states made up of runners, volun­
teers and spectators, who came
together in the name of health,
wealth and the honoring of Dr.
M artin Luther K ing’s legacy.
The annual race features three
events - a 5 kilometer walk and run,

Tribute competitive race - along a
USA Track & Field sanctioned &
certified race course throughout
the neighborhoods of Humboldt,
King, Piedmont, Woodlawn, Boise,
Eliot, Vernon, Grant Park, Sabin,
Woodlawn and Irvington.
The goal of the running event is
to reintroduce Portland residents
and visitors to the revitalized N/NE
community by bringing businesses
and neighborhoods together pro­
viding economic stimulus to an area
rich in multicultural history.
