The two day celebration will include numerous activi­ ties, daily give-a-ways, artist demonstrations, as well as all the M arket’s talented artisans selling their original handcrafted wares, an international food court and a main stage featuring local Pacific Northwest favorites. Portland Saturday Market has helped form and sus­ tain the region’s artist community for decades by pro­ viding an exciting marketplace for small businesses. Tree Hug at Hoyt Arboretum Portland broke one Guinness World Record earlier this summer with over600 people floating on the Willamette River in a human chain. It was a great way to celebrate the cleaner Willamette River. N ow H o y t A rb o re tu m and Treecology need your help to break the Guinness world record for tree hugging. On Saturday, July 20, Treecology and Hoyt Arboretum are organizing an attempt to break the world record for the most people simultaneously hugging trees in one place at one time. The current record is935 people in Minnesota. Participants will gather in the Arboretum near the intersection of Kingston and Knights boulevards, uphill from the V ietnam War Memo­ rial. Check-in begins at 2 p.m., and the hug will take place around 3 p.m. Additional fun activities include tree-related information booths, a climbing wall, Timber Joey, Garry Oak and more. Due to strict rules from the Guiness Book of World Records, registration is required so the count is accurate. Pre-registration is highly recommended.
