Family, Friends Mourn Death
T h e fam ily o f a Portland w om an found dead in
H aw aii is w orking to c o v er the costs o f bringing her
body back to Portland an d pay funeral expenses.
Ivanice H arris, a Jefferso n H igh School g rad u ­
ate, disappeared in the W akiki tourist d istrict o f
H onolulu on M ay 16. H er body w as found M ay 20
in W a i’nee, H aw aii ju st 5 0 m inutes outside o f the
city.
It w ill cost an estim ated $ 1,200 to transport her
body back to Portland, and an o th er $10,000 to
c o v er funeral arrangem en ts, fam ily m em bers said.
A fundraising event w as held last Saturday at
H aw thorne Theater. D onations can still be
m ade at any W ells Fargo location through the
Ivanice H arris D onation Fund.
A suspect has yet to be nam ed in the case.
A cause o f death is aw aiting autopsy results.
H arris w as in H aw aii to celebrate h er 29th
birthday, according to fam ily m em bers.

Fluoridation Rejected
Deceased Newborn Found
T he Portland Police B ureau is asking for the
public's help in determ ining how a deceased
new born baby ended up in a recycling center.
O n T uesday officers responded to EFI
Recycling on Sw an Island, 4325 N. C om m erce
St., on the report that a person discovered
hum an rem ains am ong recycling items.
T he O regon State M edical Exam iner per­
form ed an autopsy on the body o f a full-term
(or nearly full-term) African American or mixed-
race baby girl with the um bilical cord still
attached. T he cause and m anner o f death are
pending further investigation.
Based on the autopsy results, detectives
believe that the baby was bom w ithin the past
few days.
D etectives w ant to hear from anyone
with inform ation about this case. The m other
o f the baby m ay need o r have sought
im m ediate m edical attention.
