A North Portland favorite
since 1962 returns with the an­
nual St. Johns Parade, Saturday,
May 11.
The 2013 parade, with a vin­
tage family fun theme, begins
promptly at noon.

Fats Domino’s Piano Restored
(AP) — A white Steinway
grand piano salvaged from mu­
sician Fats Domino's home after
Hurricane Katrina has been re­
stored and will be the center-
piece of an exhibit in New Or­
leans' French Quarter.
The piano was damaged after
water poured through a broken
levee during the August 2005
storm, flooding Domino's home
in the Lower 9th Ward.
Its restoration came through
$30,000 donated to the Louisi­
ana Museum Foundation.
The largest gift of $18,000 Fats Domino
came from Allan Slaight, a re­
tired music producer in Miami.
Other donations came from Sir
Paul McCartney, the Rock &
R oll H all o f Fam e and the
Tipitina's Foundation.
A second Steinway piano be­
longing to Domino is on perma­
nent display at the Presbytere
museum in the exhibition "Living
with Hurricanes: Katrina and Be­
yond."
Bom in New Orleans in 1928,
the pianist, singer and songwriter
is a living legend for his pop,
rhythm and blues hits.
