Many community members may not know that in mid-October o f 2012, the Eliot E-
Mat Café, owned and operated by James and Leeanner Posey was tragically
damaged by water caused by faulty overhead plumbing in their leased spaced at 2808
Dr. Martin Luther King Blvd (the old Standard Dairy building in the Eliot neighbor
hood on the com er ofN E Stanton and MLK). Since January 2013, the business has
re-opened with limited hours. As one o f the few African American owned retail
businesses in the Portland community, the damage was devastating and caused the
owners to consider permanently closing the business that marks its 13 year anniver
sary May 1, 2013.
Eliot E-Mat Café gives thanks to the loyal customers who have supported the
business through these difficult times. Supporters o f the unique combination o f Deli,
Laundromat, and Internet Café have encouraged community members to stop by and
support its continued operations.
The current hours o f operation are 9am to 9pm Monday thru Friday. Weekend
hours are 9am to 6pm on Saturday and Sunday. Please call ahead your large
sandwich orders (503) 280-8889 and stop by and get a cup o f the famous Stumptown
coffee.
