Lyrical Space of Claire Denis
The Northwest Film Center is
proud to feature the striking
filmography of one of France’s
most visually profound filmmak
ers in a new series entitled, “The
Lyrical Space of Claire Denis.”
Known for her unflinching por
trayal of social realities, Denis
began her career as an assistant
director with the likes of Wim
Wenders, Jim Jarmushch, and
Dusan Makavejev. Her first hand
experience of social and political
tension as a resident in French
colonial Africa provides inspira
tion for much of her works.
The series will include nine of
her directorial efforts in addition
to three of her best-known assis
tant directed films. Shows start
Friday, May 3 and will be con
tinuing through May 16 at the
Whitsell Auditorium, 1219 S.W.
Park Ave. For information, visit
