Paris Lowe is m aking the m ost
o f h e r e x p e rie n c e at one o f
C anada’s top boarding schools.
Lowe was an 8th grader at St.
Andrew Nativity School in north­
east Portland when she received a
scholarship to attend St. M ichaels
University School in Victoria, Brit­
ish Columbia.
She is the second student to
b e n efit from the p a rtn e rsh ip ,
started by St. M ichaels alum ni
John Herpers.
Paris was raised in a Christian
hom e where she was taught the
im portance of positive relation­
ships and helping others. "Edu­
cation is im portant," says Paris.
"It im proves our chances o f suc­
cess and of m aking a strong con­
tribution to the world."
Since starting at SMUS two and
half years ago, Paris is taking ad­
vantage o f opportunities in her
m ulti-cultural boarding environ­
ment. "Everything about SMUS
supports the strong value I place
on education," says Paris. "My
experience here has helped me to
think outside the box."
Currently a junior, she recently
hosted and presented at a confer­
ence on global responsibility for
young leaders. Her talk focused
on the connection betw een m a­
ternal health and child develop-

ment and the im portance of pro­
viding support and care for m oth­
ers that fosters healthy physical,
emotional and social development
in their children.
She also facilitated a session in
w hich p articip an ts con sid ered
challenges and opportunities in
their own com m unities.
M oving forward, Paris is re ­
searching top Am erican universi­
ties with the hope of obtaining a
degree in nursing. Following her
studies, she plans to travel to third
w orld c o u n tries to help train
nurses and doctors w ith child
delivery and to work at reducing
health risks for both m other and
child.
"I have been so inspired by the
work my mom has done in her
com m unity, and by John H erpers’
involvem ent in my life, that my
ultim ate goal is to make a differ­
ence," says Paris. "I want to have
a positive im pact on each and
every person I come in contact
with throughout my lifetim e."
