Photographer Faye Schulman, a member of the resistance to the
Nazi occupation of Eastern Europe, with a group of old friends in
the forest near Lenin, Poland in 1944.
and the exhibit continuing
through April 24.
Schulman is the only known
Jewish partisan photographer to
take photos of the Jewish partisan
resistance in Eastern Europe dur
ing World War II.
Bom in Lenin, Poland, she was
introduced to photography at the
age of 10 by her older brother,
who ran the town’s only photog
raphy studio.
In 1941, German troops occu
pied eastern Poland. As the only
remaining photographer in the
area, Faye’s skills made her valu
able to the Nazis, and her life was
spared.
