T his y e a r’s S u p er B ow l boosted the econom y o f the city and state b y an estim ated $430 m illion. A nd through the efforts o f the N F L ’s E m erging B usiness P ro­ gram , som e 275 local m inority and w o m e n -o w n ed b u sin esses go t a piece o f the action. T h e N F L and N ew O rleans also team ed up to show case th eir shared co m m itm en t to ensuring that the c ity ’s recovery leaves no one b e ­ hind. O n the Friday before the big gam e, the N F L and a non-profit gro u p called R ebuilding T ogether, o rg an ized N F L players and oth er volunteers to renovate 10 hom es fo r veterans, teachers and other co m ­ m unity residents w ho have been struggling to rebuild since K atrina. T he N ational U rban League o f G reater N ew O rleans Y oung Profes­ sionals, the c ity ’s host com m ittee, and others participated in the N F L ’s annual S u p er S aturday o f Service. T his year, volunteers helped ren o ­ vate a nu m b er o f local playgrounds and facilities, including the c ity ’s Marc Morial is president and Y outh E ducation T ow n, (Y E T C en ­ chief executive officer o f the Na­ ter), the South B road Street ed u ca­ tional Urban League.
