Jazz G uitarist G rant Sayler from Portland, and Jon Letts, a bass player from the c ity ’s vibrant jazz scene, kick-off the series on W ednes­ day at the U. S. Bank M ain Branch, 321 S.W. Sixth Ave. On Thursday, Feb. 7 at the U nico Building, 111 S.W. Fifth Ave., the concert will feature Ben Zuelsdorf, an up and com ing pianist living in the Portland area who graduated from Port­ land State U niversity's jazz program , and Cary M iga, a bass player who has studied under bassist A ndre St. Jam es and trum peter Thara M emory. On Friday, Feb. 8 at the M artin Luther King Branch of U.S. Bank, 5505 N.E. M artin Luther King Jr. Blvd., the lunch time series will feature Portland native and tenor saxophonist M arc H utchinson, and Ben G raves, a local ja z z and classical guitarist who perform s reg u larly as a solo g u itarist, bandleader, accom panist and sidem an in a wide variety o f jazz, Latin, classical and R& B/soul en­ sembles. Stroman looked around the bus and gathered his thoughts before saying: "It's such apower- ful experience to be actually in the seat that Rosa Parks sat in. It's almost emotional — very overwhelming to be here." The Parks stamp is the second in a set of civil rights stamps being issued this year by the U.S. Postal Service. USPS launched the series Jan. 1 with the Em ancipation Proclam ation Forever Stamp, which was issued at The N a­ tional Archives in W ashington. In August, the series will culm i­ nate with the dedication o f a stam p recognizing the 50th an­ niversary o f the historic M arch on W ashington.
