R epeal advocates point to stud
ies that show that the ad m inistra
tion o f the death penalty across the
nation show s a bias against the
poor and people o f color. In the
year-end report from the D eath Pen
alty Inform ation C en ter it is pointed
out that death penalty sentencing
and executions continue to drop,
but racial bias is still evident in both.

At this point, investigators co n
sider the d ev astatin g fire suspicious
and can n o t rule out the possibility
o f arson.
There w ere no injuries or deaths as
a result o f the fire. But the estim ated
loss is approxim ately $ 17 million dol
lars and the hotel is a total loss.
A cash rew ard o f up to $ 1,000 for
inform ation, reported to C rim e Stop
pers, has been offered fo r a tip that
leads to an arrest.
