Art and Soul
Self Enhancement, Inc., north Portland’s
inner-city youth and family-serving nonprofit,
presents their signature fall fundraising event,
“Art & Soul in Self Enhancements,” on
Saturday, Sept. 29, with SEI students show
casing artwork throughout and contributions
by local artists Arvie Smith and Sally Makal.
The event that unites local professionals
with a passion for giving back to the commu
nity and supporting students’ artistic endeav
ors has drawn a colorful array of past guests
such as Gov. John Kitzhaber, Nike’s Phil
Knight, actor Danny Glover and star athlete
Alonzo Mourning.
“[The event] promises to have amazing
visuals and lots of sensory takeaways,” said
Jeanette Lewis of Self Enhancement. “In the
nonprofit and donor world, this is a memo
rable event.”
Over 98 percent of Self Enhancement’s
students graduated from high school in 4
years, with 85 percent going on to pursue
higher education or occupational training.
All pledges to support SEI’s programs will
be welcome.
