Bit of Rain Ends Streak
without a classroom to bustle about as the city's teachers
went on their first strike in 25 years. The sticking point? A new
teacher evaluation system.
Portland ended a 51 -day streak without rain Monday, when
a paltry four-hundred’s of an inch fell at Portland Interna
tional Airport, the first measurable rain since July 21. The
record set in 1967 had 71 straight dry days without rain
between June 23 and Sept. 1.
Obama Gets Bounce
VP Pick in Portland
It seems like President Obama got a substan
tial bounce upward in his poll numbers from
the Democratic National Convention. Gallup’s
tracking poll now gives Obama a 5 point edge
over GOP nominee Mitt Romney, up from a 1 point lead prior
to the Charlotte, N.C., festivities. A new Rasmussen Reports'
tracking poll shows Obama with a similar 5 point lead.
