Two pieces of the massive 201
ton dock that was washed away
from a city on Japan's northeast
coast by the devastating March
2011 tsunami and that landed on
Oregon's Agate Beach this past
June have now arrived at the
Oregon Historical Society in
Portland.
"When the Oregon Depart­
ment of Parks and Recreation
began the process of disman­
tling and removing the dock, I
expressed our interest in obtain­
ing a piece for our permanent
collection," said Kerry Tymchuk,
OHS executive director. "We
are proud to be able to apply our
unique resources to preserve and
protect this fascinating piece of
history."

the Oregon Historical Society
received are two metal boat tie
offs, each weighing an estimated
20 pounds. They are on display
in the "Treasures of the Vault"
exhibit at the museum through
Dec. 30.
Admission to the museum is
$11, and is free for OHS mem­
bers and all Multnomah County
residents.

Portland Community Media is hosting a Summer Digital
Festival on Saturday, Sept. 15, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., at their
studios located at 2766 N.E. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.
The free family festival will include a showcase of digital
technologies through interpretive and interactive exhibits, a
tour of the PCM television studios, and educational activities
and games. You can find out how the Internet works, how
to access health, employment and other information on the
Internet and how to sign-up for low-cost Internet service at
your home.
The event also will help the community understand the
importance of broadband and equitable access to the Internet.
There will be live music, food and games for all ages. You’ll
even get a chance to be a television host, guest, director or
both!
