This year’s towering corn field maze at the Pumpkin Patch on Sauvie Island is fashioned to resemble the iconic statue “Portlandia. ”
Maze Adopts ‘Portlandia
The Portland M AiZE ventured into its
14th season over the Labor Day week
end at The Pumpkin Patch on Sauvie
Island. This year’s creation celebrates
‘Portlandia, “the city where young people
go to retire,” as well as featuring the
iconic statue, herself in the towering
com field.
The idea behind the design is to con
nect the iconic sculpture, Portlandia, to
the quirky IFC television show, Portlandia.
The popular catch phrase “put a bird on
it” has larger than life m eaning as
Portlandia reaches down to place a bird
on a giant pumpkin in the 5-acre com
field.
You’re invited to test your cleverness
and see if you have the intellect to navi
gate the giant com puzzle. A “passport”
that holds trivia, \yhich, if answered cor
rectly, can also guide maze-goers cor
rectly through the mile or so of twists,
turns, and dead ends. In addition, two 16-
foot long observation bridges give visi
tors a look across the field and stunning
panoramic views of Sauvie Island and
the mountains in the distance.
The maze is open daily through Oct. 31.
Admission is $7 for adults, $5 for children
under 12; and free for children 5 and
younger. For more information, call 503-
