P ortland p olice respopded to the attem pted k id n ap ­ ping w ith neighbors holding the suspect dow n ju s t a few blocks from w here the incident occurred in the 16900 block o f S outheast L afayette Street. W hen A ntoinette R obinson heard a m uffled scream from the area w here h er kids w ere playing, she w ent outside to see a m ale w ith his arm around h er child's neck an d his hand on the girl's m outh. T he m an w as trying to pull the seven-year-old girl into the bushes.
