Mass Shooting In Texas
A man being served an eviction notice
on Monday killed two people including
the law enforcement officer who served
him the papers in College Station, Texas.
Four other people were injured in the
incident, and police later shot and killed
the gunman, identified as Thomas "Tres"
Caffall.
Oregon Jobless Uptick in July
Oregon's unemployment rate climbed from 8.5. percent in
June to 8.7 percent in July. The economy added 1,800 jobs,
but the number of unemployed workers grew as people
entered the labor force for a variety of reasons, including
moving to Oregon, graduating from school or entering the
job market for the first time, officials said.
Mayoral Candidate Open to Sales Tax
Portland mayoral candidate Charlie Hales said Monday that

he would want voters to remember him as a politician who
helped improve public- education funding, possibly through
a statewide sales tax. Opponent Jefferson Smith said he
rejects the idea of a sales tax, calling it regressive.
Diagnosed with Bipolar
U.S. Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr., a Chicago

for bipolar disorder. “Congressman

Trash Compacting Survival
A man who decided to sleep off a night of drinking in a
dumpster near Mall 205, miraculously survived Friday when
the dumpster was picked up by a garbage truck, which
promptly dumped him inside and twice attempted to compact
the load of trash. The driver heard Justin Gilpatrick, 27,
screaming from inside and he was taken to a hospital and
treated for minor injuries.
