Portland Parks and Recreation presents Kids
Cook, a free fam ily celebration that explores cook­
ing and eating with healthy, fresh, and seasonal
produce.
The event is open to all and will be held at the St.
Johns Com m unity Center at St. Johns Park, 8427 N.
C entral, on Sunday, Aug. 19 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
There will be cooking dem onstrations by the
Portland Kitchen, the Natural Epicurean Academy
of Culinary Arts, and Grow Afterschool. Also
planned are free sam ples o f kid-friendly recipes,
created by local eateries Cathedral Park Kitchen,
Proper Eats, Hopworks Urban Brewery, and Che
Café. •
The Portland Parks Grow Afterschool program
gives kids the opportunity to plant and harvest
crops, taste seasonal vegetables, prepare healthy
recipes, and even go on field trips to local m arkets
and farms.
